Tattoo Welcome Pack

Preparing for your Tattoo Session

The week before getting your tattoo and throughout the healing process it is important that you stay hydrated, eat well and get lots of rest.

At least 3 days prior to your session, start exfoliating and moisturising the area to be tattooed once a day with your preferred exfoliator and moisturiser. A hydrated skin absorbs the tattoo ink better and gives better results when healing. The tattooing process will also be less painful if your skin is well moisturised and you are well hydrated.

On the day of your tattoo make sure you eat breakfast/lunch, or anything substantial beforehand. Bring along something (non-alcoholic) to keep you hydrated during the session and a snack for lengthy sessions. Sugary foods can be helpful if you have a tendency of low blood pressure.

Please avoid alcohol, blood-thinning medications, and limit caffeine consumption on the day of your tattoo. Ideally avoid these substances 3 days before and 3 days after your session as well. Don’t come in hungover, drunk or intoxicated with any substances — it will cause the process to be more painful and the tattoo won’t heal as nicely afterward.

Ensure you have a clear diary for the day of tattooing because you shouldn’t rush a tattoo that lasts for life. If you can, go for an open return for travel tickets to avoid missing your transport home.

WHAT TO WEAR

Remember to wear comfortable clothing and items you wouldn’t mind getting stained by ink. Depending on the placement of your tattoo, be mindful of clothing that will give easy access to it, bring a change of clothes if necessary.

Keep in mind you will be in close proximity to the tattooist so make sure to be clean and wear clean clothes. Have a shower before your session. Use antiperspirant deodorants for your armpits and feet—when you need to remove your shoes for your session—if you tend to sweat a lot.

Zip-up hoodies or buttoned shirts are great to wear for sternums or back pieces. For leg and thigh tattoos bring loose fitting shorts or joggers that split open at the sides. Anything on the arms will need a loose fitting T-shirt or vest. Strapless tops work great for chest, arms and upper back pieces. Feel welcome to even bring a dressing gown for bigger pieces.

DURING THE APPOINTMENT

Please sanitise your hands upon arrival. There’s a small sink and antibacterial soap at the studio as well as hand sanitisers easily accessible around the space.

Bring your ID with you (photo IDs, such as driving licence, identity card or passport) and the name of any medications you are currently taking or medical issues you may have, to facilitate when filling out the consent form.*

Ideally, do not bring along friends or family. At the moment we do not have the capacity to receive many people at the studio. You can bring up to 1 person if you feel like it’s important to help you feel less anxious. Please communicate this beforehand so we can accommodate everyone the best way possible.

If paying by cash, don’t forget to bring it with you. If you are unable to bring cash you can pay via bank transfer or card.

If you feel unwell, faint or sick at any point during the session, please let me know. It is important that you communicate the level of discomfort you are feeling.

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

Preferably go straight home so you can get enough rest and food. Take a look at my aftercare guidelines for everything you need to know about how to care for your brand new tattoo. I will give you a printed version of the aftercare guidelines on the day of your appointment as well.

*All information given to us on the consent form is kept confidential and under data protection regulations.
